Update on the Green Renovation Project
On December 17, Stan Wreyford, APGM Senior Agronomist, and Chris Hamill, VP of Facility Planning, were at the club to continue the next phase for preparation to begin the greens project. That phase is to finalize the scope of work and establish a timeline to the project which will be given to the contractors selected for the bidding process. Three contractors have been selected to bid on the project. Once all three bids are received, they will be reviewed closely and the contractor will be selected by mid-February.
What we know now:
Start Date: No later than June 1st (this will be closely monitored for best start date)
Completed for play: estimated between August 1st and August 31st
The greens will be re-opened the minute they are established and can handle foot traffic.
Selected grass type: Mini Verde, an Ultradwarf Bermudagrass
Construction Process – 30 days (estimate – weather dependent)
• Remove an average of 6” of existing sand on all greens
• Add 6” of USGA conforming sand to all greens and till into existing mix
• Increase total green surface from 76,166 sq. ft to 114,420 sq. ft. (50% increases to current sizes).
• We will fumigate all greens to make sure all foreign grasses are cleaned
• We will increase the greens contours and recapture some of the original design
• We will be sprigging all the greens for seamless coverage
• We will be doing some in-house work on other areas of the golf course as time and money allows( bunkers and other areas)
Estimated Grow-In Time
• 4-8 weeks
Some of the Benefits of your new greens:
• No over seeding in winter
• Little to no transition in spring
• High salt tolerance
• Faster putting surface
• Larger putting surfaces for more pin placements
It is important to note that with these new greens and other improvements that have been made and/or will be made in the future, the quality of golf will be vastly improved. While the horrific conditions of 09 certainly helped to force this current process much can be attributed to the club’s ability to grow and maintain a strong membership roster. Thanks goes out to those ambassadors of the club and their friends that joined. With these new golf course conditions will come an improved interest in becoming members and we do have a few golf openings in membership, however we anticipate making a recommendation to your Board of Governors to close out our current existing Initiation Fee offer and look into an escalation sometime in the first quarter of 2010 for all new members joining. Therefore it might make sense to refer your friends to consider membership now rather then wait.
P.S. Look forward to meeting you Friday, January 15, at the "Mix-n-Mingle" event that I am hosting from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
