The founding of Berry Creek

A Piece of History...

Berry Creek Country Club is nestled on what was once the Logan Ranch – 1,100 acres in the foothills of the Texas Hill Country. The Logan family owned this land for two generations, grazing cattle and sheep.

Some of the streets in the neighborhood are named for the members of the Logan family. Logan Ranch and Logan Plateau, of course, but also Lovie Lane and Jaydee are namesakes.

The Logan family sold the ranch to Robert & Dawana Stanton in the late 1970’s. Mr. Stanton, a contractor, built the Logan family a house in Serenada. The Stanton’s lived and raised their family on the ranch for several years.

The neighborhood of Berry Creek was an idea born of Mr. Stanton, a golfer, and president of the West Georgetown Development Company, who took advantage of some of the unique features of the ranch. A quarry had been dug for rock that was used in construction of Interstate Highway 35. A cave and a spring were discovered during the excavation. That quarry is now the famous Hole # 8 which was documented in a Dallas Newspaper as one of the two most unique Holes at Texas Golf Clubs. After an extensive cleanup of the area, Mr. Stanton decided to make the quarry the viewpoint of the Clubhouse and members enjoy the view daily from the dining room. The neighborhood plan was developed as well and in 1984, the original plat was filed with the county.

One of the most successful professional golfers of 1986 played with the first members at the inauguration of Berry Creek Country Club. Tom Kite joined member #1 Ken Hunt’s team for 9 holes and member #2 Jim Caskey’s team for 9 holes in the first round. These two members are still active in the Club and we would like to say “Thanks for being a Member!” Other early members playing in that inaugural round were Andy Vaughn, Doak Fling, Jay Sloan and Bob Sutton.
